I know I have neglected my poor blog, but in the height of Senior Portraits, I have a good excuse. My third year as a HS Senior Portrait Photographer, this has been such an amazing year. I adore photographing Seniors, especially from the area where I started it all. It’s reassurance the 45 minutes to see me isn’t so far after all.
Sarah, the youngest in her family was my first senior girl this year. The hectic world of relocating gave me doubts I would be able to get in the full swing of Senior Portraits this season, but Sarah told me she knew she wanted me to take her portraits when she saw images of a senior friend from last year. What a fantastic compliment. I feel as though I have more then a professional relationship with my clients and meeting with Sarah and her Mom, Carol proved just that. Thank you so much for choosing me to capture these truly important portraits.

My new Red “Lola” Epiphanie camera bag arrived today! I absolutely love it! My old camera bag was really not my style. It served it’s purpose well enough, but always seemed bulky and not comfortable. My Epiphany bag is just my style… truly gorgeous and very well made. It will fit my canon cameras and L lenses just fine. This way, my camera can really go everywhere! I am a hypocrite.. I admit it. I don’t necessarily feel like my “likes” on fb defines my business. However, being in a new place, I would like to see some new faces too! Word of Mouth has been my biggest, amazing advertisement. I am so thankful when people do refer me. It makes me feel all warm and gushy inside knowing the love of my chosen career makes people happy and they love and appreciate custom portraiture as much as I do. In a business where most prosumer cameras’ price points are pretty reasonable and having a photography “business” is easy as addding “photography” to your name, it’s a challenge to set yourself apart. Kyle was my first Senior of the season. His Mom contacted me months ago, excited about his session. Kyle goes to the Green Mountain Technical Center. He is involed in the forestry program and all around lover of anything outdoors. He helps his Dad in the woods and as the youngest in his family, I am sure it will be bittersweet for his Mom to let him go in a few months. We had a great session, his easy going attitude and relaxed style made our time go by quickly. Love, love first birthday Sessions! Watching little ones smash a cake is especially fun! There are a few types of kids for this session, Some kids are intimidated by a whole cake being put in front of them without someone saying “no” so, they dabble and poke and look at their Moms, kind of asking for permission. Another type of kid is one who starts to dive in even before you can set the cake down to get those first initial shots of them prior to cake smashing. Then the kids who dabble, poke and then devour. Sometimes they cry, being all frosting can be icky. Most times they are so happy to be completely free to make a mess. I am so happy they do!

Perfect weather, gorgeous girl…love my job! Ashley makes my job seem easy at times. We have this way of communicating. I barely finish my directions and she is already in place. She knows exactly what I am looking for as an artist and photographer. Anyone who has had a session from me gets instructed at the very beginning I tend to be super chatty. I have so many thoughts going through my mind about the session from beginning to end that I like to think out loud..a lot. I have been told it helps my clients relax, as ackward silences are never a good thing. lol. I was able to use my new, bigger studio and backdrops, one custom handpainted by an amazing artist. The lighting outside was to-die-for. Seriously gorgeous! Thanks for looking!

Senior Portraits are really important as they mark one of the most important times in your lives. Make sure your portraits are something that will last a life time and photographed by a professional. Do your research, educate yourselves. As much as Aunt Mary loves to use her camera, and her intentions are good, she is just taking a snapshot. Lighting, posing, processing and hundreds of other things that go into a portrait are what professional photographers can provide. Still trying to blog when I can. I am going back and fouth between homes now. Hoping there is a light at the end of our moving tunnel. lol. Sessions are still happening, newborns coming up and HS Senior sessions. I am already booking fall sessions, very excited people are thinking ahead. I am currently booked until the week of June 17th. It can take planning, but thinking ahead and booking early will guarantee dates and times for everyone. Since sessions are limited each week, I feel bad when I have to tell people dates they inquire about are taken. Please make sure to plan accordingly. I am adding amazing backdrops to my collection. I have one currently on it’s way I have waited 5 months for, handpainted by the very talented Becky Gregory. She often has a waiting list and I am sure it will be well worth the wait and investment.
